Thom Racovitis Endorsement

me and thom1It was truly an honour to be able to attend the A Toast to Thom (Racovitis) Gala held Friday night at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.  Long time downtown businessman and culinary legend, owner/chef of Tunnel BBQ, was honoured at a Gala celebrating his life and accomplishments after his recent retirement and closing of his legendary downtown restaurant Tunnel BBQ.

The Gala was a celebration of his culinary life and included a who’s who of local chefs and culinary legends.  It was fantastic to be on the opposite side of the table as great local chefs like Glenn Blommesttein, Vincenzo Del Duca, and Helmut Markert.  As a chef and local restaurateur it was an honour to chat with Thom about his business and share insights about downtown and his vision for the potential that downtown has.  I had a few minutes to talk to Thom where he shared some of his stories and fond memories of years past in the core.  He let me know that he will be supporting my campaign and endorsing me.  He later issued the following statement:

“Rino Bortolin brings a fresh perspective, drive and determination to all that he does. He sees the big picture: small businesses are vital to our local economy, bring jobs and improve quality of life for everyone who lives here. Rino Bortolin has the personal attributes and business knowledge we need on City Council.”

me and thom2My campaign and platform is gaining momentum and has resonated with many including long time downtown businessmen and community leaders.  My vision for downtown is one that we can all get behind.  After over 40 years in the core Thom Racovitis has seen the best and worst of times is Windsor and has been a leader through it all.  His dedication to Windsor and especially downtown is
an inspiration both as a business owner/chef and a candidate for City Council.  His support is affirmation of my efforts and will drive me to achieve the goals that I have set out. Thank you Thom.

Greek Community Meet & Greet

photo 2 (2)It was great to be part of a meet and greet at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Community Church of Windsor today. Campaigning can be bring you to many places and many doors but sometimes you get to share something unique and special. Events like the meet and greet today exemplify the wonderful things in our community and the amazing multicultural fabric that is woven by the families and members of communities like the Greek Orthodox Community of Windsor.  It was very familial as everyone seemed to feel quite comfortable in the beautiful church. Special pastries, breads, drinks, and fresh fruit were offered as you might see as a guest in their homes.  It was also great to see many of the other candidates including many from the mayoral race.  Our multicultural make up and traditions is one of the things thphoto 1 (2)at makes Windsor such a special place.  It was great to recognize and know so many from the community who shared their support and well wishes.  I look forward to working with the Greek Community in the future as Holy Cross is an integral part of Ward 3 and its urban dynamic, attracting members from all across Essex county for services and festivals throughout the year.  Thanks to Pat Papadeas, GOCW President, for inviting myself and all the other candidates and hosting a wonderful event.

Welcome to my blog! With my experience I am both Business Focused and Community Driven. In Ward 3 we have a resurging Downtown and a diverse population. I want to ensure that those voices are heard and that there is someone at the Council table that is not afraid to advocate for them. I feel that I can best represent their interests because I understand what it takes. I am extremely passionate about Windsor and the region and all the things that make it special and an amazing place to live and raise a family. Please take time and blog with me about the City issues that are important to you.

[WINDSOR]  Rino Bortolin, restaurateur, author, and local food advocate will again challenge the Windsor City Council seat in Ward 3 by filing his candidacy today.  Bortolin, a lifetime Windsor resident, is the co-owner/operator, with his wife Anastasia Adams, of Rino’s Kitchen & Ale House.  His campaign is focussed on strengthening neighbourhoods and empowering businesses.
